Braces are not just about straightening teeth; they are a long-term intervention in the bite and jaw structure. Orthodontic treatment usually takes 18–36 months depending on each person's dental condition. If the orthodontist lacks expertise and experience, the consequences can include many problems such as:
Wearing braces for a long time without the teeth moving according to plan.
Wasted time and extra costs for corrections.
Gum recession, exposed roots and bone loss
Scratches on the soft tissue or damage to the gums.
A bite that is more misaligned than before.
On the other hand, when you work with a reputable orthodontist, you will have a clear, personalized treatment plan that keeps your treatment on schedule and limits pain. The end result is not only even, attractive teeth but also better chewing, clearer speech and more confidence when talking to people.
That is why choosing an experienced orthodontist is a must. Do not just look at low prices or flowery advertising. Before signing an orthodontic contract, check the dentist's profile, qualifications and the clinical cases they have treated.
To choose a trustworthy orthodontist, consider the following criteria:
The dentist must have a formal degree in odonto-stomatology. A valid practicing license is mandatory. The more in-depth orthodontic certificates, the better.
Hands-on treatment experience helps dentists handle difficult cases. Prioritize orthodontists who have treated many complex cases.
Orthodontists who take part in conferences, teach or have published research are rated more highly. This shows that they regularly keep up with new techniques and technology applied in orthodontics.
Before-and-after photos and feedback from real patients are important evidence of a skilled orthodontist's reputation. Look at plenty of patient photos, read reviews and do not forget to assess their dedication through their attitude, advice and so on.
Self-ligating brackets, lingual braces, Invisalign, the Damon system, 3D simulation software and the X-Matrix orthodontic solution are essential technologies. The more a good orthodontist understands or masters them, the better.
A good orthodontist does not just get the job done; they aim for lasting results, improved chewing function and long-term aesthetics, no relapse (teeth not shifting back after braces) and the preservation of natural teeth.

Besides choosing a skilled orthodontist from the list of the top 9 orthodontists in Hanoi, check the following before signing an orthodontic contract:
Check qualifications and practicing licenses. Ask the clinic to provide public copies.
Ask to see before-and-after records of orthodontic patients. Ask directly about cases similar to yours.
Ask in-depth questions. Ask about the techniques used, the expected treatment time and possible complications during treatment.
Check the technology at the clinic. Does it have X-rays, cone beam CT and software that simulates tooth movement?
Look at real patient feedback. Read reviews and ask patients who have had braces directly in online groups.
Transparent costs and aftercare commitments. The contract should clearly state the warranty, follow-up visits and how issues are handled.
Compare at least 2–3 clinics. Do not rush your decision. Compare the treatment plans and how you feel after the consultation.
A skilled orthodontist at a reputable clinic will always give clear advice, never over-promise and offer several options that suit your condition.
Besides the orthodontist, the clinic and its technology also matter. A good orthodontist working without modern equipment will still struggle to achieve optimal results. So also pay attention to:
The quality of instruments and materials. Genuine materials reduce risks.
Sterilization procedures. Ensuring safety during treatment.
The support team. Skilled technicians and nurses.
Monitoring and follow-up. This determines how long the results last.
These factors help the orthodontist make an accurate plan and minimize risks during your treatment.
