Band or “orthodontic suture” is a small metal ring sized to fit the size of each patient's teeth, usually placed at the position of tooth number 6 or 7. Their specific structure includes:
Not all cases have indications for orthodontic bands, this appliance is indicated in the following cases:
Orthodontic bands have the same effect as brackets - an indirect device to transmit force to the teeth from the wire and elastics pull.
However, the band has much better retention ability because it is made of a metal ring that hugs the entire tooth crown instead of just being attached to one outer/inner surface like braces. Therefore, they are used when patients have poorly maintained tooth crowns (deep, broken, short) and are prescribed other fixed appliances such as expander jaws, TPA arches, etc.

Step 1: Examination and treatment planning
First, the doctor will examine and analyze the clinical case to plan treatment. Treatment of general dental problems before braces (treatment of cavities, gingivitis, periodontal disease, wisdom tooth extraction, etc.)
Step 2: Oral hygiene
Clean tartar and plaque before placing interdental elastics.
Step 3: Place the elastic apart and take a mark
Interdental elastics include circular rubber pieces placed between teeth number 5, 6 or 7. They are about 1mm in size and have a certain hardness. When placed between teeth, under the elasticity of the elastic, the teeth will separate to the desired space and the elastic will fall out on its own. The time for placing interstitial elastics ranges from 4 to 6 days.
During this appointment, the doctor will take an impression of the jaw with teeth that need to be banded to choose the appropriate band size and type for each case (1 tube/ 2 tubes or 3 tubes).
Step 4: Try bands
The doctor tested the band on the mouth, checked the fit and adjusted the height of the band.
Step 5: Attach the band
When the band has achieved a tight fit and the patient does not feel any discomfort, the doctor will proceed to attach the band to the tooth with a specialized dental adhesive (usually using GIC - FUJI I)
Step 6: Attach other appliances
After attaching the braces band, the doctor can attach other appliances such as: TPA arch, hydrax/quadhelix jaw

Surely there will be many customers worried about pain when applying the band. In fact, the feeling of pain will depend on the condition of each patient because it mainly comes from the procedure of placing interdental elastic bands:
